Volunteer Portal

Welcome to our Volunteer Portal for the 2024 Brissie to the Bay bike ride, presented by MS Queensland. Thank you so much for registering your interest in joining us at this amazing event so together we can create hope for the thousands of Queenslanders living with Multiple Sclerosis.

In this portal you will have access to all documents pertaining to your volunteer role. We will do our best to place you in your preferred position, but there is a chance that we may need to place you elsewhere. We will be in touch in the lead up to the event via email correspondence to confirm your role and to get you any further information.

Thank you again for coming on board and we look forward to working with you on Sunday 9th June, 2024.

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

Your exact role for the day will be sent to you via email in the lead up to the event. In the mean time, please read the below carefully and check the box at the end of this information to let us know that you have read it all and understand the requirements and details of the event. Then don’t forget to pop the date in your diary, so you won’t double book that date.

LETTER-BOX DROP VOLUNTEERS:

Required in the three weeks leading up to the event, Letter Box Drop Volunteers assist in providing information to the local residents affected by the road closures in place for the MS Brissie to the Bay ride.

It’s easy to incorporate this task into a fun afternoon walk over a weekend, with letters needing to be delivered to the areas of Wynnum, Cleveland, Wellington Point, South Brisbane, South Bank and West End.

Availability: Pre-event (20th May - 5th June 2024)

PRE EVENT PREPARATION:

Have a bit more time during the week and want to be involved in some of the behind the scenes action? Located in our Milton office during office hours, pre-event tasks may include merchandise sorting, mailings, general event administration etc. Generally volunteers are required in the month leading up to the ride as things get busier and final preparations are fully underway!

This role also includes helping to set up on Saturday 8 June at Musgrave Park with tasks like signage building, merchandise placement and much more!

Availability: Pre-event (13th May - 8th June 2024)

COURSE MARSHALS:

There's positions available on every one of our rides, whether you want to be out on the 10km, 25km, 50km, 100km and 130km courses.

You'll have heaps of fun getting to see all the action by...

  • Directing and supporting event participants (feel free to bring along pom, poms, clackers and wear your brightest clothing!)
  • Providing event information to participants and spectators (we'll give you all the info you'll need to know).
  • Keeping in touch with event organisers about anything important happening on the course.

Availability: Sunday 9th June (5:30am - 2:00pm)

REFRESHMENT STATION ASSISTANTS:

There are 5 drink stations located along the course. Under the guidance of Refreshment Station Leaders, assistants will help set-up, run and pack down their allocated refreshment station. The 5 stations are located at:

  • Wynnum
  • Cleveland
  • Balmoral
  • Redland Bay
  • Carina

This position is perfect for teams if you wish to be together for the shift!
Please specify which one when you apply to volunteer.

Availability: Sunday 9th June (5:30am - 2:00pm)

EVENT VILLAGE:

There's lots of fun roles to get involved in at the Event Village!

Want to help out in the merchandise tent, handing out exciting fundraising incentives? Have a skill and passion for photography and want to capture some special moments? Or want to help us collect some more donations to reach our fundraising goal? This is the role for you!

Availability: Sunday 9th June (9:00am - 2:30pm)

BIKE MECHANIC:

Bike Mechanics are required to show proof of bike servicing experience for this role, as the number of mechanicals obtained throughout the event can be significant. So an efficient service or repair is essential to get participants moving quickly. Most mechanical issues that are obtained on event day involve changing tyres/tubes, servicing clunky gears, tightening parts, lubing chains etc. However a well-rounded bike mechanic would be appreciated to ensure participants are assisted swiftly. Bike mechanics are required on course (at rest stations and roving), as well as at the start line area.

Availability: Sunday 9th June (5:00am - 2:00pm)

EVENT PACK DOWN CREW:

The Event Pack Down Crew will be assisting to pack up event signage including flags, fence mesh, and corflutes around the finish village. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and packing down tables which is relevant to each volunteer’s capabilities. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry to gain some hands-on experience. If you don’t mind some physical work or want to help out after an earlier shift, this role is for you.

Availability: Sunday 9th June (2:00pm - 4:00pm)

The pocket guide is a necessity for you to print out and carry with you at all times during your shift/s. It contains important contact information and it will also be needed for you to be able to access FREE public transport on event day. You can download the hanbook and pocket guides below.
