Here we go again! The 2021 MS Brissie to the Bay in June, to support multiple sclerosis sufferers
The race is back, the 2020 postponement was been a huge blow for the MS Society, but with the help of the funds raising from this ride, they’ll be able to continue doing an incredible job to support MS sufferers, and their families.
It’s with great privilege to be participating in the famous MS Brissie to Bay bike ride on the 13th June to support those fighting the terrible disease, Multiple Sclerosis. This is the sixth year and racing the 100km option. To dial it up, I accepted an invitation to join the speed-demons from national stock broking firm Shaw & Partners, together, as a team, we will complete the course in under 3 hours on a pace of 34kmph, allowing for traffic and lights, we’ll need to sit on 40 or catch an UBER 😊.
About the ride, the Brissie to Bay isn’t the standard 100km bunch ride with coffee, it’ ALWAYS a sufferfest! The conditions are hot, zippy and despite it being a “none-race set up” it’s ON from the start! I’ll be earning your support all the way! The riders fund the event so 100% of all donations go towards providing support and care to the thousands of Australians living with MS, donations are tax deductible of course.
Why I’m Participating:
MS Society competes with many worthy causes, my purpose for doing this goes back to in 2008, my brother Stephen was diagnosed with progressive MS at 28, unbelievable! He also caught Covid this year, ONE DAY, after having received his AstraZeneca Jab, he’s been the unlucky one! He never complains, just gets on with it! All is fine though and being the “smooth talker” of the two of us, we are grateful he gets the best support. Despite this crippling illness, Ste has an amazing sense of humour, positive attitude and mental strength is just inspirational, but people in Ste’s position need our support. Through the years, I've seen first-hand the huge physical/mental challenges individual sufferers and their families go through.
The ride is 100km’s from Brisbane to the Bay and back, nothing in comparison to the challenge MS suffers encounter every day, nowhere near, but it’s doing something. This year, the event aims to raise $1 million to help fund vital support services including physiotherapy, counselling, a support line accounts for ~80% of each donation and interesting new research projects exploring possible causes and a cure accounts for ~20%. If you wish to donate, every donation counts and needless to say is greatly appreciated by everyone involved and most of all, the MS sufferers themselves.
The team at Shaw and Partners and I, are aiming to make a BIG dent into the $900,000 target with a team target of $100,000, already up to $60,000, lets helps the initiative get a little bit closer. Thank you for your support!
BTW - Did you know:
- 4 Australians are diagnosed with MS every working day
- The average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age
- It strikes young people in the prime of their lives and there is no known cause or cure
Your support will provide vital services and support to assist all those affected by MS to live life to their fullest and reach their true potential.
For the Aussies, it’s a great time to donate with tax year end approaching, funds raise directly contribute to those Australians living with MS.
