My Activity Tracking

My target 666kms

Sponsor me to support Queenslanders living with MS.

I am taking part in the 2020 MS Brissie to the Bay bike ride to join the fight against multiple sclerosis. I am raising funds to show my support and your donation will make an impact to change the lives of people living with MS.

This year thanks to COVID-19 is a little different. We are still pushing ahead, but a little differently. We are going VIRTUAL!!

I have a 'Smart Trainer' that my bicycle is mounted on, this is connected to an app called FulGaz which provides cycling routes from all over the world. It's like riding outside with all the pain and effort associated. That means the hills are still hard work!

My plan is that for every $100 raised I'll ride 25km, how far I ride is up to you.

For some perspective, the traditional ride is normally 100km, and I normally raise around $2000. This year if we reach this amount, you will have made me ride a whopping 500km!

I know times are tough, but so is living with MS, and with my wife being diagnosed with this hideous condition last year, I know just how tough it is. Riding 500km is a walk in the path comparatively.

Who wants to make me suffer?

(check out the gallery below which I'll update throughout the sufferfest)

Did you know:

  • On average, more than 10 Australians are diagnosed with MS every week
  • The average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age
  • Three out of four Australians with MS are women

Your support will help fund essential services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counselling and symptom management, as well as MS research to look for better treatments and ultimately a cure for the disease.

Please DONATE to support our ride and help ensure no one faces MS alone.

My Updates

So you do want me to suffer...

Hi Folks,

Donations are still coming in, so the un-official total sits at $2638.57 as of 5pm 02 June. My kilometre target has now been raised to 660km.

The "My Activity Tracking" graph has been corrected by the IT guys at MSQLD so now it shows the correct distance traveled. Between yesterday and early this morning I've already done 122km. I'm going to push to get the distance done as quickly as work/family/sleep permit as I'm worried that you will surprise me with a kicker of a donation later in the month...

At 5:15am this morning this is what I was looking at. What were the sensible people doing I wonder?

June 1st It begins!

Thanks to all who have donated. As of 09:00 this morning with direct donations and HPE's Give program dollar matching HPE employee contributions my fundraising total is now sitting at $2358.45.

So I'm starting the 30 for 30 challenge with a target of 617km. This will grow if donations keep coming in as I've committed to ride 1km for every $4 donated.

I started this morning with an early 30km before breakfast. I see the website is showing 64km as it for some reason is currently including my ride testing done on the weekend. Hopefully MS QLD can remove the ride data from the 30th of May.

Almost reached the first major milestone

As of right now officially you have contributed $1121 towards my support campaign to raise much needed funds to support MS Qld.

I had an exceptional response from HPE employees who have also submitted "HP Gives" requests.

HP Gives is a program for HPE employees whereby the company will match dollar for dollar donations to a limited number of qualified charities. MS Qld is one of them.

So as of now (still waiting on a couple of HP Give confirmations) my real fund raising total is $1898.

Thank-You so much to all that have contributed.

So, my commitment of riding 25km for every $100 donated means I have to ride 475km for this event.

Please, please make me suffer some more!

I'm able bodied and capable of a bit of physical pain. So many who suffer from the debilitating disease would love to be able to ride around the block, let alone 475km. My suffering is nothing compared to what someone living with Multiple Sclerosis, please dig deep and help me help people like my wife and others improve their quality of life.

Thank-you so much.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise

These days I'm working back at HPE, back in an Engineering role. I sent out my fundraising email to the Qld team and since then have found out that HPE has MS QLD on an approved charity list.

This means that any permanent employee can lodge proof of their donation to the "HPE Gives" program and they will match the donation dollar for dollar.

I committed to ride 25km for every $100 donated. For HPE employees who can confirm that they have followed the HP Gives program that I'll include the extra value in the kilometre commitment even though the donation won't appear in my campaign.

So let the suffering begin. So far including HP Gives contributions I'm already up for 200km.
