Ian Bloemendal

I am taking part in the 2022 MS Brissie to the Bay to join the fight against multiple sclerosis.

As some of you know, every 1- 2 years, as the mercury drops, I get my backside back into saddle, get friendly with lycra and  register to ride 50km as part of the MS Brissie to the Bay to support of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Over the past couple of years we have had a taste of living with various restrictions due to COVID-19, albeit temporary but it now apears that for most of us, life has returned to normal.

However, living with MS brings restrictions that can progressively increase and while there is no cure, the tunnel looks very long. Imagine for a moment knowing that life will never return to normal and that your world may get smaller. Think about a life with Multiple Sclerosis.

I hope that if I ever was struck by MS or similar that someone else would ride or sponsor someone to help me.

Thankfully I don't have MS but have connections with others whose family and friends do.

It's surprising how few degrees of separation there are when our eyes are opened and we begin to look around us. One of those people is Katherine, and since 2014 I have dedicated each ride to Katherine to her family. It's just one small way to put a human face to an invisible disease.

I'm conscious that many people ask for funds and you may have your own charities that you already support - so please don't feel obliged - but if you could spare the cost of a just a few coffees and a box of chocolates  - and grab a tax deduction for yourself along the way (as any donation over $2 is tax deductible and a receipt will be emailed to you) - I am sure you would also feel good about helping such a worthy cause as MS.

Together, we can bring some light and hope by raising funds to support lives, bring joy as well as research that will hopefully one day find a cure.

Did you know:

  • On average, more than 10 Australians are diagnosed with MS every week
  • The average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age.
  • Three out of four Australians with MS are women

To sponsor me is so easy - just click on the link to view my fundraising page and make a donation:

Any amount you can give, large or small would mean so much to me and I know that your generosity will have an immediate impact helping to fund essential services for almost 4,000 Queenslanders living with MS. These services include a NeuroAssist information line, specialist nursing services, wellness programs, and financial support. Your support will also power research into better treatments, and with your support, the hope is that one day there will be a cure for MS!
