2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 30

I am proud to say we made it 27,573km traveled virtually around the coastline of mainline Australia and Tasmania in 30 days.

To do this 30 Day Challenge for MS with an awesome group of MAD participants from Adelaide, Brisbane, to Melbourne only heightens my sensations that Teamwork makes the Dream Work in the goals we have ALL achieved in 2021 and thank you ALL for giving it your best in fundraising and pushing each other during the challenge to the end is humbling.

Thank you to everyone for stepping up to the challenge of raising some funds and awareness for MS Qld to our strategic partners, suppliers, clients and colleagues your supporters for donating to our MAD teammates through the month of June to helping them finish their chosen distance and thank you for Making A Difference.

Signing off for 2021.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 29

Day 29 saw us in-spite of pending lock-down or rain collectively move the pin 653km on the map to Boltons Beach 73 kilometres north-east of Hobart.
---

Today I would like to thank my folks Mick & Robyn McDonald who at the kick-off of my fundraising donated $1,000 which I was absolutely blown away-by to MS Qld. I wouldn't be here today with-out their support and guidance, the best parents a son could ever have, THANK YOU!

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 28

Day 28 sees us jet into Hobart and head south 371km with the additional 961km over our 25,0000 from Day 27 puts us 1,332km at Bakers Beach (located about 76 kilometers north-west of the town of Launceston) Tasmania with only 905km in the last two days to get to our new finishline in Hobart.

---

Today we would like to recognise Axel Martin  for his personal donation of $213 to MS Qld who has raised so far a total of $819 in 2021. Axel is also our teams highest distance of 1,663km so far for the month of June in his 30 days challenge, the second year in a row that he has cracked 1,000km and currently sitting 7th overall in 2021, well done mate, you're a Legend.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 25,26,27

Just a quick message to congratulate our MAD 54 on reaching our virtual 30 day Challenge target of 25,000km in 27 days.

Watch out Australia we're going the distance 27,237km an extra 2,234km (the distance of the mainline coastline of Tasmania) with 3 days left to go, let's hope we can make it?

---

Today we would like to recognize 3 of our long term team members Bill Collyer, Ben Bowen and Kieran Harmey for their personal donation of $261 to MS Qld

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 24

Day 24 lands us 329km south at Keppel Sands the southernmost town on the Capricorn Coast. Originally known as Sandhills, the town takes its current name from Keppel Bay, which in turn was named on 27 May 1770 by Lieutenant James Cook , commander of HMS Endeavour, after Admiral Augustus Keppel, the First Lord of the Admiralty.

---

Special shout-out today to Leon Richards for his personal donation of $264 to MS Qld. In 2021 Leon is a “Gold MS Legend” having raised $10,828 and currently the events 6th highest fundraiserin the last 5 years that Leon has supported MS Qld he has now raised $30,955 to date and  is currently our teams highest fundraiser in the 11 years we have supported MS Qldyou are an absolutely LEGEND and is so awe-inspiring to see the support you have in your networks considering the times we currently live in how generous people are.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 23

Day 24 sees us inching closer to Brisbane 672km south to land the pin on the map at Strange a coastal rural town and locality in the Livingstone Shire just 175 kilometres north east of Rockhampton. Like most northern Queensland coastal towns, Stanage Bay is home to crocodiles. There are plenty of signs at the boat ramp but it is important to be croc-wise at all campsites along the beach, especially if camping with dogs.

---

Today we would like to thank a long term team member Simon Patterson for his personal donation of $313 to MS Qld. Over the last five years supporting MS Qld, Simon is our teams 4th highest fundraiser, having raised $8,564 to date which is amazing for his time that he gives to this event and his supporters. Thank you mate for making a difference.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 22

Hurtling south with the kilometres ticking by we landed the pin on the map 1,178km at Abbot Point which is home to the North Queensland Export Terminal, the most northerly deepwater coal port of Australia, situated approximately 25 kilometres north-west of the township of Bowen. Established in 1984, it consists of a rail in-loading facility, coal handling and stockpile areas, and a single trestle jetty and conveyor connected to a berth and shiploader, located 2.75 km off-shore. Coal reaches the port via the GAP railway line from the Bowen Basin Coalfields. Something you may have not know In May, 2021, it was announced that private Australian rocket launch company, Gilmour Space Technologies, was given the go-ahead by the Queensland Government to build a rocket launch facility in Abbot Point. The rocket dedicated to launch from the launch facility is known as Eris and will launch as early as 2022.

--

Todays sponsorship thank you goes out to a member of our team in first riding in the Brissie to the Bay Steve Jenkins for his personal donation of $315 to MS Qld, very generous.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 21

Day 21 see us moving the pin on the map south 196km (our shortest distance to date, am sure it was the winter solstice that kept us in bed :-) ) to end the day at Cape Melville National Park. The park is 1,711 km northwest of Brisbane. Its main features are the rocky headlands of Cape Melville, granite boulders of the Melville Range and beaches of Bathurst Bay. The national park was the site of a 2013 National Geographic scientific expedition which discovered three new species. These were the Cape Melville leaf-tailed gecko, Cape Melville shade skink and the Blotched boulder-frog.

---

Todays sponsorship thank you goes out to Michael O'Flynn for his personal donation of $350 to MS Qld. This is the 3rd year Michael has supported this event, is our teams 5th highest fundraiser in the 11 years we have supported MS Qld having raised $7,397 to date, an absolute legend.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 20

Sunday saw us collectively travel 1,148km rocketing back into Queensland and down through the Gulf of Carpentaria like a roller coaster rapidly building speed landing us up and over on the eastern side of Cape York at Lockhart River, YAPOW! Lockhart river is the northernmost town on the east coast of Australia, 800 kilometres north by road from Cairns and approximately 2,550 kilometres by road north of Brisbane. The community is also located approximately 2 kilometres inland from Quintell Beach and is within the Iron Range National Park.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 19

Day 19 sees back into Queensland after a whopping 1,151km landing the pin on the map in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
---
Today we would like to recognise CNC Project Management https://cncprojects.com.au/ a company that is composed of experienced, multi-disciplinary professionals working on diverse infrastructure projects across Australia for the donation of $300 to MS Qld,

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 18

Day 18 see us move the Pin 871km closer to the NTQld border as edge around the coastline.
---
Special thank you today to Kurt Dahl from Permeate Parnters a specialist consultancy which assists clients with the investigation, procurement, operation and maintenance of water and waste water infrastructure https://www.permeate.com.au/ for their $418 donation to MS Qld.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 17

Day 17 sees us land the pin on the map another 811km east across the Top End at the Nhulunbuy Lookout in East Arnhem Land. Nhulunbuy is a township that is the sixth largest population centre in the Northern Territory of Australia. Nhulunbuy was created on the Gove Peninsula when a bauxite mine, and a deep water port, were established in the late 1960s, followed by an alumina refinery.

---
Today our thanks extend to Jeff Lawson and the team at Vermeer Australia who is part of Vermeer Corporation’s worldwide dealer network of over 3000 team members. Vermeer Corporation, a manufacturer established in Pella, Iowa, in 1948, is a manufacturer of high-quality construction, surface mining, agricultural and environmental equipment for their donation of $515 to MS Qld

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 16

Yesterday saw us move another 535km east with Axel Martin putting in 107km to land the pin on the map at Wiligi Outstation in West Arnhem, a vast wilderness area in the northeast corner of Australia’s Northern Territory, defined by rocky escarpments, gorges, rivers and waterfalls. It's home to the traditional landowners, the Yolngu people

---

Today we would like to thank a long term supporter of Leon Richards, Mark Twycross from  Twycross and Partners Pty Ltd for their very generous donation of $674 to MS Qld.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 15

Day 15 saw us cover 894km along the top end of northern Australia coastline, ending at Garig Gunak Barlu National Park on the Cobourg Peninsula. About 216 kilometres north-east of the territory capital of Darwin, Garig Gunak Barlu (Its name derives from the local Garig language, and the words gunak 'land' and barlu 'deep water') should be on every traveller's list.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 14

Day 14 sees us land the pin on the map in the Northern Territory at Port Keats Airfield, Wadeye (pronounced wod-air-yer or "wad-ayer"). At the 2016 census, Wadeye had a population of 2,280. Wadeye is the 6th most populous town, and the largest indigenous community in the Northern Territory. This area of the Territory has a lot of fond memories for Mipela GeoSolutions as we worked on the 287-kilometre Bonaparte Gas Pipeline (BGP) for APA Group one of our oldest clients which completed construction in December 2008. The BGP is a transmission gas pipeline that starts at Wadeye, transporting gas from the Blacktip gas field in the Timor Sea to the Amadeus Gas Pipeline at Ban Ban Springs. Gas from the BGP is also delivered via a small lateral to the remote power station near the town of Wadeye.

---

Our shout out and thank you today goes to Xcav8 Plant Services https://www.xcav8.com.au/ who provide plant hire and maintenance services to a wide range of industries such as water, oil and gas, tunnelling, renewable energy and mining for their very generous donation to MS Qld $1,520.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 12-13

The last three days (Friday 869kmSaturday 414kmSunday 4,704km) see us fly up the Western Australian coastline collectively travelling a further 5,986km landing us at Berkeley River Lodge, on the Kimberley coast.

----

Thank you to one and all that took part in the 31st Brissie to the Bay yesterday, we were blessed with the most amazing weather and such a great group of people to ride with (for those interested, on the day we had 24 do the 130km, 8 do the 100k, 2 the 50km and 3 the 25km) congratulations to everyone for making a difference.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 11

Day 10 see us move the pin 567km approximately 240 kilometers north of Perth to Beekeeper's Nature Reserve in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. From 1889 until it was officially closed in 1971, a stock route between Dongara and Perth ran through what is now Southern Beekeeper's Nature Reserve and Nambung National Park. Southern Beekeeper's was gazetted by the Department of Lands and Surveys in 1979, "for the purpose of 'Apiculture and Conservation of Flora'. Beekeeping had been taking place in the area for generations, with beekeepers starting on the coastal plains during the spring, then moving on as the season progressed.

------

Today we would like to recognise Graham Cleary and the team from Qantac https://qantac.com/ who provide a one stop shop for all village facilities and installation and catering for remote location accommodation in the Mining and Constructions sectors for the support of Leon Richards and his fundraising and their significant donation to MS Qld of $2,520 is in the words of Leon "very humbling to see such kind hearted people and businesses who continue to provide support year on year".

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 10

Continuing west 464km into a headwind (finally we can turn northwards up the Western Australian coastline) sees us finish day 9 at Canal Rocks, Yallingup (less than 3 hours drive south of Perth in the heart of Margaret River).

---

Today is a special thank you to FSA Consulting Engineers https://www.fsace.com.au/  for their very generous donation of $515 to MS Qld which has seen Bruno Teixeira become our 8th team member to raise over $1,000 in 2021.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 9

Yesterday as team we collectively travelled a further 1,177km setting the pin at Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve (The name "Two Peoples Bay" is from an incident in 1803 when an American whaling ship used the sheltered waters to lay anchor at the same time as a French vessel that was exploring the coastline east of Albany) located approximately 25 kilometres north-east of Albany where Little Beach is probably the most beautiful white beach in the area.

---

Today we would like to recognize Michael Benson from Austrack www.austrackequipment.com.au  and his very generous donation of $515 to MS Qld to Leon Richards.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 8

1ST Week down and Day 7 sees us cross 261km into Western Australia (finishing 6,887km from our start at Point Danger, Coolangatta QLD) looking west from Madura (a small roadhouse community located on the Eyre Highway in Western Australia) on the Roe Plains (1,253 kilometres till we hit Perth). Madura was settled in 1876 as a place to breed quality cavalry horses for the British Indian Army for use in the Northwest Frontier region of India (now part of Pakistan). The horses were shipped from the coast at Eucla. The site was chosen as it was one of the few with free flowing bore water in the area. The surrounding area is part of Madura Station, currently a sheep station, but previously used to graze cattle, horses and camels.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 5-6

The last three days (Friday 1,166kmSaturday 1,207kmSunday 1,772km) see us collectively travelled a further 4,145km landing us in South Australia on the Eyre Highway Nullarbor less than 40km from the WA border. The Eyre Highway and the Nullarbor Plain offer one of the world's greatest road adventures. Travelling this expansive plain, you’ll experience the remoteness of the Great Victoria Desert, the pounding Southern Ocean of the Great Australian Bight (where you can watch whales beneath the world's longest line of sea cliffs) and the beautiful Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

——-

Today we would like to thank and recognize John Whitbread from Pipeline Drillers HDD contractor https://www.pdgroup.com.au/ another one of Leon Richards many great sponsors. Completing projects across Australia, Pipeline Drillers has established itself as the leading authority in the Horizontal Directional Drilling industry, while continuing to develop new and innovative methods for the trenchless installation of steel and HDPE pipelines.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 4

I was thinking after yesterday we would have time for a breather to spin the legs over but Day 3 saw us push another 637km further along the Victorian coastline to Portsea Surf Beach in Victoria.

------

Thank you to Brendan Dillon and his company Strategic Gas Market Trading for their $515 donation to MS, so so so generous!

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 3

On the map we have moved the pin 640km over the border into Victoria (don’t tell Dan Andrews we’re passing through) ending the day just south of Orbost at Corringle in East Gippsland. The first section of Ninety Mile Beach is one of Australia's longest beaches; the 41 km section from the Snowy River mouth to Lake Tyers. It consists of three sections. The easternmost section lies on the western side of the Snowy River mouth, at Corringle. There is a camping area and access to the beach over the dune, together with boat access to the river

Big thank you to one of Leon Richards many great sponsors based out at Shailer Park is WASCO Australia (an EPC and O&M Services contractor based here in Brisbane. Wasco Australia is a member of Wasco Energy Group a leading integrated group that operates in the global market. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and supported by a network of operations in 18 international locations, Wasco provides reliable and competitive products, services and solutions to asset owners the world over.) who have so kindly donated $588 to MS Qld

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge) Day 2

Yesterday we collectively travelled a total of 1,023km virtually from Point Danger on the coast at Coolangatta into Blues territory (Go QUEENSLANDERS) down to just south of Sydney ending the day at Bombo Headland in Kiama.

2021 MS B2B (30 Day Challenge - Day 1) - We're off!

We are taking part in the Ride to Fight MS

It is rewarding to be taking part in the 31st   MS Brissie to the Bay bike ride as one of our Twenty21 #ProjectMAD initiatives to join the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS).

What started as a social ride amongst friends and colleagues ten years ago for the personnel challenge and the opportunity to Make A Difference (MAD) is very gratifying.

We are raising funds to show our support and your donation will make an impact to change the lives of Queenslanders living with MS.

Did you know:

  • On average, more than 10 Australians are diagnosed with MS every week
  • The average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age
  • Three out of four Australians with MS are women

Your support will help fund essential services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counselling and symptom management, as well as MS research to look for better treatments and ultimately a cure for the disease. Please DONATE to support our ride and help ensure no one faces MS alone.
