Fundraising Tips

1. Set a fundraising goal

  • Setting a fundraising goal communicates to sponsors that you have a personal target to achieve. Let your sponsors be part of that experience of contributing towards something bigger than a simple donation.
  • People donate because they respect the person asking them - so let them feel better about their donation because they are supporting you personally and your personal fundraising goal.

2. Make the first donation
  • Put your money where your mouth is and show your sponsors that you are serious!

3. Use your unique profile page
  • Register online and you will receive your very own web page to fundraise online. Use the page to send emails about why you’re supporting people with MS and communicate your personal message, upload photos and movies, view all your sponsors and their supportive messages, promote your campaign via social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc), blogs or an external website.
  • Your profile page is a great way to track all your fundraising and keep your sponsors up-to-date on your progress. It also allows you to keep track of other riders' fundraising as you see who is moving up the fundraising leaderboard. Why not make it into a friendly competition with others on the leaderboard?

4. Communicate and promote your efforts
  • Let everyone know what you plan to achieve and promote this great thing you are doing to help people with MS. A great way to raise money is by sending an email or text message to everyone you know.
  • Be creative! The more ways you promote, the more ways people can support you!
  • Put posters up around your office, school or local community group. Click here for a list of posters.
  • Use the email footers supplied or include a link to your profile page on your auto signature. Click here to choose an email footer.
  • Add a message to your answering machine  to encourage people to show their support.
  • Ask if you can send a notice in your company’s payslips or be included in other internal communications.

5. Organise a special event
  • Running a special event is a great idea to communicate your goal and your personal message in a fun and interactive way. An event can be as simple as an internal work raffle or a little more involved like a big trivia night for your work or local community.
